Three Dads, Harold, Kevin and Bob, plus kids Gina, Ted, Margaret and Emma (grades 3-4) biked the Withlacootchee bicycle trail in west central florida. The entire trail is 45 miles. We parked our cars along the trail in a state forest, biked 18 miles up to the town of Inverness, FL, and stayed in a motel. Swam, played cards, walked to a mexican restaraunt for dinner. Sunday morning the kids played charades around the pool, we read the paper, had a late breakfast, fixed a flat, and biked back to our cars. The trail is simply outstanding, built over an old rail bed. Most of the old concrete RR mileposts can still be found alongside, and a couple of old depots are still standing. Had lunch at a general store, ate boiled peanuts. Easily the nicest, most scenic, most uncrowded, bike trail I've ever been on.
Here's a place we might want to stay next time: Moonrise Resort
